A little over a month ago I ordered my first ever pieces from Bettie Page Clothing/Tatyana Boutique! (Word to the wise for 2015: Memorial Day Weekend sales are nearly if not equally as good as Black Friday sales online!). There’s an outlet for the brand (http://outlet.tatyana.com) that have a lot of popular items that have been around for a few seasons so what’s left of that inventory is greatly reduced on this site. Over Memorial Day all of the items on the outlet site were an extra 50% off so I decided to take advantage of the sale! As I’ve said before, when I first venture into a new brand from an online store I will review the sizes I purchased and include my measurements. I know size, shape, and weight is very sensitive for all women regardless of which end of the spectrum you fall but I’m always super appreciative of reading reviews which measurements listed because it helps with making an educated decision when online shopping.
First, the skirt! I loved the parrot print so much and kept seeing it pop up on eBay for around $60 give or take. So when this went on sale for-I’m not kidding-$10(!!!!!) I obviously had to purchase it. The only caveat was that I once purchased the Bettie Page green/umbrella skirt in an XS and it was a bit small so I sent it back. Over Memorial Day the outlet was out of a size S and only had XS. I decided to go for it any way-figuring that for $10 if the fit was awful I could sell it It’s around a 24/24.5 inch waist and I’m a 25 inch waist (give or take). When I got the skirt it fit more or less fit the same as the green umbrella dress in XS but it’s not an impossible fit. Wearing a black shirt (as pictured) you can’t take that it’s a touch snug too (other colors are debatable). My only pseudo-complaint is that for some reason (probably my fault) I thought it was a cotton skirt, a la Hell Bunny material. Instead it’s a sheer lacy material. Frankly, that’s probably better quality but it makes me nervous if I ever have to iron it and it could snag a bit more easily.
Having never even tried on a Bettie Page/Tatyana dress I was flying somewhat blind on which size to go with. Again, only size XS was available and while the dress size chart also lists the dress waist in XS being a 24 inch I’ve noticed that dresses in a smaller waist (especially in pin-up dresses) fit better than doing my true 25/26 inch waist. I always get Bernie Dexter dresses in XS despite most of her measurements stating that they’re somewhat smaller than my measurements. Given that they seem to be similar brands I decided to chance the XS. I was also nervous about the print because as much as I love retro/Brady Bunch-esq/70s prints this print seemed particularly loud. Luckily when it arrived it fit like a glove and I loved the print way more in person than I did online!
