Lauren Blair's Fashion Blog

I have other blogs amongst the internet world, but the older I get the more obsessed I become about putting outfits together that are polished, fun, coordinated, and often times retro and/or classic. My instagram is www.instagram.com/laurenblairz :) I love dresses, skirts (especially midi-lengths), heels, bright colors, interesting patterns, novelty prints, vintage fashion and so much more!!! So follow me, let's have some fashion fun, and I'll follow you back!

Sorry I’ve been a little hit or miss this whole month!  Between traveling and technical difficulties it’s just been one of those things!  Is everyone having a great summer??  I hope so!
Here’s a recent outfit featuring one of my favorite pieces of clothing: a green skirt from Modcloth.  I’ve basically substituted this for what a favorite pair of jeans is used for!  It’s comfortable, not too hot or too warm, and goes with most things.
Top- Old Navy
Skirt- Modcloth

So I’m behind on posting outfit pics on here from the past two weeks, but I decided to post last nights dress right away bc it’s not the PUG skirt as promised lol. I wanted to wear a bandeau with the skirt and utilize the summer heat with longer lengths but Denver had an unexpected cold snap! I got this Bernie Dexter dress on clearance from Modcloth earlier this month. With the sleeves, black trim, and even being slightly longer length than most BD dresses I was planning on saving this for late summer/early fall. But, since it was cold and rainy I decided to wear it now! Denver has such back and forth temperatures….I need to learn to not get my heart set on wearing certain outfits on set days! Lol, how have I not learned this??

Outfit details:
Dress-Bernie Dexter
Bag-Melie Bianco
Shoes-Jessica Simpson

Pin up girl clothing!! I’m slowly but surely getting addicted to PUG! I got this dress two months ago and I got one of the harlequin skirts in the mail this week from eBay (wearing that tonight so follow on Instagram for an outfit pic tonight or early tomorrow-@demurelaurenblair. Of course I’ll post on here but it may take a few days).

Here I’m about to go out to dinner with a friend in Pennsylvania. The Jenny skirt is kind of heavy, but for night wear its perfect. I love that I got a pool background for the tiki print. So summer! 🌴☀🏊🌅

Tank-Forever 21
Skirt-Pin up Girl Clothing/Pin Up Couture “The Jenny Skirt”
Bag-Kate Spade
Shoes Nine West

A little over a month ago I ordered my first ever pieces from Bettie Page Clothing/Tatyana Boutique!  (Word to the wise for 2015: Memorial Day Weekend sales are nearly if not equally as good as Black Friday sales online!).  There’s an outlet for the brand (http://outlet.tatyana.com) that have a lot of popular items that have been around for a few seasons so what’s left of that inventory is greatly reduced on this site.  Over Memorial Day all of the items on the outlet site were an extra 50% off so I decided to take advantage of the sale!  As I’ve said before, when I first venture into a new brand from an online store I will review the sizes I purchased and include my measurements.  I know size, shape, and weight is very sensitive for all women regardless of which end of the spectrum you fall but I’m always super appreciative of reading reviews which measurements listed because it helps with making an educated decision when online shopping.
First, the skirt!  I loved the parrot print so much and kept seeing it pop up on eBay for around $60 give or take.  So when this went on sale for-I’m not kidding-$10(!!!!!) I obviously had to purchase it.  The only caveat was that I once purchased the Bettie Page green/umbrella skirt in an XS and it was a bit small so I sent it back.  Over Memorial Day the outlet was out of a size S and only had XS.  I decided to go for it any way-figuring that for $10 if the fit was awful I could sell it  It’s around a 24/24.5 inch waist and I’m a 25 inch waist (give or take).  When I got the skirt it fit more or less fit the same as the green umbrella dress in XS but it’s not an impossible fit.  Wearing a black shirt (as pictured) you can’t take that it’s a touch snug too (other colors are debatable).  My only pseudo-complaint is that for some reason (probably my fault) I thought it was a cotton skirt, a la Hell Bunny material.  Instead it’s a sheer lacy material.  Frankly, that’s probably better quality but it makes me nervous if I ever have to iron it and it could snag a bit more easily.
Having never even tried on a Bettie Page/Tatyana dress I was flying somewhat blind on which size to go with.  Again, only size XS was available and while the dress size chart also lists the dress waist in XS being a 24 inch I’ve noticed that dresses in a smaller waist (especially in pin-up dresses) fit better than doing my true 25/26 inch waist.  I always get Bernie Dexter dresses in XS despite most of her measurements stating that they’re somewhat smaller than my measurements.  Given that they seem to be similar brands I decided to chance the XS.  I was also nervous about the print because as much as I love retro/Brady Bunch-esq/70s prints this print seemed particularly loud.  Luckily when it arrived it fit like a glove and I loved the print way more in person than I did online!

Have a great Saturday!!!!

Sitting on the dock of a bay…..literally!  Another St. Michael’s, MD outfit pic from last week!  (I had limited to no Internet connection there hence the belated outfit posts.  Follow this blog on Instagram for daily and more up to date pics-@demurelaurenblair).
What I love about this outfit is that so many of us who are into vintage and pin-up inspired outfits often go to the same stores to get our amazing and favorite dresses (Modcloth, Bernie Dexter, Trashy Diva, Unique Vintage, etc).  However, sometimes you can find really fun prints in classic prints from borderline unlikely stores…like this dress from Ralph Lauren!  Sure Ralph Lauren is kind of preppy which can automatically mean nautical sometimes (nothing wrong with that!) but this dress made me think it was worthy of any of the aforementioned sites!

I was in St. Michael’s, Maryland last week and while out to dinner I had to wear my favorite piece of vintage clothing!  A print with bikini babes all over it seemed too perfect for a water front dinner!  Of course I got a little sloppy with wearing flip flops instead of my normal heels, but I did go to college in Florida so sometimes being near water brings out the inner Miami girl in me!  Plus the colors all tie together :)

If you’ve been reading this blog since early May (when I last traveled) you know that I prefer to dress up while I travel.  I believe wearing maxi skirt/dresses are just as-if not more-comfortable than sweat pants or jeans. Yes, I acknowledge I may be a bit ridiculous for some people’s taste as I am wearing rather tall wedges, but I maintain that I was “born in heels” and can run in them so I don’t believe I’m being high maintenance.  Plus, wedges are typically easier to walk in than pumps or stilettos.
Either or, being slightly pulled together while you travel sometimes helps you get better service if you run into an issue (always use manners of course either way!).  Plus we live in a time where we take traveling for granted.  Less than a century ago people would get dressed up to fly because it was a luxury.  Maybe that is pushing it a bit but being pulled together adds a nice touch.  How do you dress while traveling?
